Temporal Bone Ear REG with Flesh – 64-year-old right ear
High-fidelity otologic training in a streamlined footprint
The Temporal Bone Ear REG with Flesh delivers the full procedural realism and surgical feedback of our flagship Temporal Bone Ear MAX with Flesh model in a more compact, cost-effective format. Designed specifically for centres focusing on core to advanced otologic dissection without cochlear implant insertion, the REG with Flesh model ensures training programmes only invest in the exact capabilities they need.
Combining an optional authentic external “flesh” ear for genuine spatial orientation with high-precision internal anatomy, it provides a dependable, highly repeatable simulation environment for surgical dry-labs and skills workshops.
Targeted anatomical realism and tactile drilling response
The Temporal Bone Ear REG with Flesh replicates the complete middle ear and temporal bone anatomy using specialized materials engineered to match the mechanical and acoustic behaviour of living human tissue.
- Authentic drilling feedback: Recreates natural bone resistance, tactile vibration, and cutting dynamics under clinical surgical burs.
- Calibrated densities: Multi-density internal bone structures replicate cortical bone, spongy trabeculae, and dense labyrinthine capsules with high fidelity.
- Natural approach angles: The life-like external soft-tissue ear ensures realistic trajectory, hand positioning, and surgical access angles.
Supported surgical procedures
The REG with Flesh model accommodates a comprehensive suite of otologic interventions, focusing on foundational access through to intricate nerve preservation:
- Mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty: Complete exposure of the antrum, facial recess, and middle ear space with authentic bone-shaving characteristics.
- Myringotomy and grommet insertion: Practise the procedure using the removable tympanic membrane; replacement membranes are available separately for repeated practice.
- Facial nerve decompression: High-precision practice along the horizontal and vertical segments of the Fallopian canal.
- Labyrinthectomy and petrosectomy: Subtotal petrosectomy and complete labyrinthine dissection.
- Active and passive implantation: Compatible with middle ear implant platforms, including Bonebridge, Vibrant Soundbridge, and passive ossicular reconstruction (PORP/TORP).
- Specialised approaches: Practice for stapedotomy, superior canal occlusion, and middle cranial fossa access.

Key training benefits and active safety feedback
1. Authentic surgical orientation
- High-fidelity landmarks: True-to-scale anatomical relationships between the tegmen, sigmoid plate, and facial nerve.
- External soft-tissue ear: Provides critical anatomical landmarks (tragus, concha, pinna) to ensure proper patient positioning.
- Colour-coded structures: Distinct visual cues on vital landmarks support rapid identification during guided instruction.
2. Dynamic feedback and functional anatomy
- Mobile ossicular chain: Articulated ossicles support realistic palpation, mobilisation, and reconstructive middle ear surgery.
- Rupturable sigmoid sinus: Reinforces spatial margin discipline when skeletonising the sinus plate.
3. Efficient, scalable laboratory integration
- Digital DICOM integration: Embedded QR links give learners immediate access to micro-CT reconstructions and cross-sectional DICOM datasets matching the physical model.
- Logistical efficiency: Bypasses biohazard protocols, formalin preservation, cold-storage requirements, and ethical approval processes associated with cadaveric temporal bones.
- Repeatable training standard: Uniform anatomy ensures equal, standardised assessment metrics across all trainees in a cohort.
Modular, cost-efficient architecture
The REG with Flesh model integrates smoothly into the modular Anatomex mounting infrastructure:
- Stable mounting options: Mounts securely to a heavy-duty A4 perspex base equipped with a fluid-containment rim.
- Multi-axis rotatable mount: Enables flexible, realistic head tilts to replicate standard supine operative positions.
- Economic consumable replacement: Once your laboratory is equipped with base plates and mounts, only the replacement REG with Flesh temporal bone inserts need to be reordered for subsequent courses.
- Removable tympanic membrane: When practicing grommet insertion, purchase only the removable tympanic membrane to repeat the practice.
Choosing your configuration
Choose the options that suit your needs:
- Flesh layer: Choose the model with the removable flesh layer for soft-tissue context and incision practice. The layer can be removed during dissection. The bone is also available on its own if you don’t need the flesh layer: View the bone-only model.
- Mount and plate: For surgical practice, we recommend the reusable mount and A4 plate with rubber rim. They stabilise the model during dissection, and the rim helps contain irrigation fluids. All models are compatible with our mounts and plates.
- Replacement parts: The removable tympanic membrane sits beneath the flesh layer. Replacement membranes for repeated grommet insertion practice, and replacement temporal bones for continued use, can be purchased separately.
Summary
The Temporal Bone Ear REG with Flesh model is the ideal solution for surgical training programmes that require uncompromised dissection realism, fluid safety feedback, and natural soft-tissue orientation at an accessible price point. By omitting unused cochlear insertion pathways, it delivers maximum educational value for every training pound spent.
