Anatomex 3D model giveaway to the best surgeons of the day
The Anatomex team was proud to attend the ENT Practical Course in Microsurgery held at Stellenbosch University’s Sunskill Lab in Cape Town this February.
Organised by Dr Elnemarie Burden and Dr Marc Merven, the event brought together exceptional surgical talent for a day of advanced learning, hands-on skill development, and meaningful peer collaboration in the field of endoscopic sinus surgery.
The final practical session of the workshop focused on advanced endoscopic sinus surgery. During this session, Professor Darlene Lubbe and Professor Christoph Schlegel from Lucerne, Switzerland, informally assessed the participants as they performed their surgical procedures.
Anatomex 3D was thrilled to gift two Bookface Midface Sinus Models to the top-performing surgeons of the day. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to these two outstanding practitioners whose surgical technique and precision stood out:
Dr Sarel van Staden was awarded Best Primary Surgery of the Day for his careful preservation of the middle turbinate during an endoscopic Draf III (Lothrop) procedure. Dr Van Staden graduated from the University of Cape Town and currently practices as an ENT specialist at Mediclinic George and Mediclinic Geneva.
Dr Lungi Sigonya received the award for Best Revision Surgery in recognition of her adept handling of a complex revision case. Dr Sigonya completed her ENT training at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is now based at the University of Pretoria in the Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base Division. She is also part of the UP fellowship program.
The Anatomex 3D model giveaway – the Bookface Midface Sinus Model — is our first, officially released educational tool designed to support sinus anatomy training and enhance patient communication, helping them better understand their condition and the proposed surgical approach. This attractive model also makes a great addition to any ENT’s desk.
It was a true honour for our team to witness the level of surgical excellence on display and to contribute to an event that so strongly aligns with our mission: advancing surgical education and anatomical understanding through innovative 3D models.
We look forward to supporting many more events like this in the future and to seeing outstanding professionals continue to shape the future of ENT surgery — in South Africa and beyond.
